Homemade Yogurt

23 05 2010
This is a really simple recipe for homemade yogurt. You can use any type of milk you like. The taste of this yogurt is far superior to any you can buy in the store. You can keep this in your refrigerator for a couple weeks. If you have any left at the end, use a little bit of this homemade yogurt as the starter for your next batch.

1/2 gallon milk

3/4 cup dried whole fat milk powder (like Nestle Nido)

4 oz container of plain nonfat yogurt

Scald the milk which means just bring up to a low boil when the bubbles start to form on the top. Turn off the heat and whisk in the milk powder. Cover with a lid. Allow to cool to room temperature. Whisk in the plain yogurt.

Meanwhile, turn on the oven to 350 degrees. Then turn the oven off and put the yogurt mixture in covered with either a tea towel, paper towels or cheesecloth. Allow to sit at least 8 hours.
